Aged to Perfection
No longer will Central PA charcuterie enthusiasts need to travel to the City of Brotherly Love to gather their favorite meats and cheeses! Straight from the Italian Market district, Philadelphia’s legendary “House of Cheese,” Di Bruno Bros., has opened its first retail location in the heart of the Susquehanna Valley. Operating from 9am-9pm daily, the Di Bruno Bros. Cheese Shop at Giant in Camp Hill features more than 125 types of national and international cheeses—including varieties that are created and aged on site. In addition, the retail location carries a bevy of artisan accoutrements like cured meats, crackers, jams and oils. Noshing novice? Not to worry—specially trained staff will help you create perfect pairings, like Parmigiano Reggiano with balsamic glaze and honey roasted pecans.

This foggy-day photo was taken by local resident Dawn Steelman: “I love taking my dogs, Betty and Bodhi, for daily walks around town. This photo was taken in January on the Liberty Street pedestrian bridge in Lancaster.”
Local Etsy finds: The Enchanted Cupboard
Next time you’re about to make a run to a big box store for the latest or greatest toy, think twice. You may be able to find an adorable option from a local artisan. Take The Enchanted Cupboard, an Etsy shop owned by York resident Beccijo Neff. Neff’s handcrafted, hand-painted toys use only natural materials that are free of lead and other toxic substances. We just love this rainbow mushroom toy, perfect for preschool-aged children learning colors, sorting and counting.

From Europe to York
European indulgences have never been closer to home, thanks to the opening of Janina’s Fine Desserts in York. A family-owned-and-operated patisserie, Janina’s Fine Desserts features traditional French and Polish baked goods. Following professional training as a pastry chef in Poland, as well as a 15-year stint at a French bakery in Baltimore, Janina Turziak decided to bring her passion for and knowledge of European baking techniques to a smaller community. Janina’s Fine Desserts features scrumptious tarts, cookies and danishes, but the pièce de résistance is the menu of decadent cakes, for example the Spanish Fruit, with genoise and French mousseline buttercream, topped with fresh mixed fruits and marzipan. Dining for one? Each cake is available as an individual pastry for a decadent treat at any time of day.
