Meant-to-be: She’s the buyer for Details and Pappagallo, the Lancaster boutiques. The FedEx delivery contractor was very cute. He invited everyone from the store to a Labor Day party. Nobody else could make it, so Molly called to reschedule. “Do you have plans?” he asked. She said no. Come anyway, he said. That was their first date.
The theme: Vintage flair, in blush pink and cream. Rustic touches included vintage lace, distressed wood, old keys and glass doorknobs. Cinderella pumpkins in white and dusty green served as accents. Molly made her entrance to the ringing of an old farm bell, signaling that the bride was coming.
Something old, something new: The bride wore her mother’s veil, embroidered with the dates of her parents’ wedding and hers. She added a blusher, because her father wanted the tradition of lifting the blusher from his daughter’s face.
The favors: Aperitif dishes cradling moss with a succulent and a burlap tag that said, “Let Love Grow.” Like true love, succulents are constantly growing and changing, adapting as their environments change.
The surprise: Molly’s dad and Stephen both love magic. When the couple and their parents got a private preview of the ballroom, Molly’s mom surprised the men by hiring a magician who performed just for them.
The music: At the reception, an acoustic guitarist played everything from the Beatles to Adele. Guests loved it. He also played the couple’s first dance–Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours.” They took ballroom dance lessons, working through some frustrating nights to get it right. Guests whistled and cheered when he dipped her at the end.
The hitch: Photographer Kate Greenawalt took the couple around the entire property on a golf cart, getting just the right shot at the koi pond, white picket fence and soybean field. But the long train of Molly’s dress got torn off under the golf cart wheels. The train was meant to come off for the reception, anyway, but Molly wanted her bustle for the dance. Day-of planner Jonnaysa Kirkham and her staff sewed the train back on, and the reception went ahead right on time.
The quote: “I’ve been to a lot of weddings in my lifetime,” said one guest, “and this one was absolutely breathtaking.”
