I love my denim. This spring is going to be particularly fun because for the first time in awhile, almost anything goes! Designers are showing everything from distressed, shredded, or frayed, to patchwork and embellished. Washes spread the gamut as well, from light and various colors to dark. The waist height is also all over the place this spring, with low-slung still showing up and high-waisted helping to support the hot ‘70s trend also happening.
No matter what your personal preference is, there is a style and a wash out there for you! Jeans, jackets, skirts, and shirts are all making appearances this year. I’m really regretting passing on a denim mini dress I had for years. Of course, as soon as I unload it in a yard sale, it comes back in style! I have my eye on this fantastic shirtdress from AG. It’s something I could wear to work but could also toss on for a weekend of running errands. Pair it with a brightly colored crossbody bag and sneakers or flats to pull off the weekend look without looking too stuffy.
Currently I’ve really been into distressed denim so I’m glad that is still on-point for this year. I have a mid-wash distressed jacket that I’m planning on pairing with several A-line dresses for both work and casual weekend wear. On my list to add to my current distressed jean selection is a pair of gray jeans. I think these will be a nice alternative to black for spring and into summer. The ankle style shown below would be a great pair to wear with flats or add heels and a jacket for date night or drinks with your friends.
Flared jeans, overalls, and jean shorts are going to be popular. Personally for me, I will probably go for more of a slightly flared boot cut versus the wide-leg flare. I feel this more tapered leg with a slight flare at the bottom will be easier to wear without looking like you are going to a ‘70s party! But, if you’re really up for a wide-leg style, give this trend a try.
Jean shirts and jackets are also other alternatives to work denim into your wardrobe. The jacket shown below features faux leather trim. One thing I really liked about this jacket in particular is that the sleeves are a soft fabric and easily roll up. I tend to prefer this type of look versus wearing the sleeve long. It’s casual but still polished. This denim shirt would go great with black jeans or a colored pair. It would look great with a brightly colored cotton skirt or a fun patterned skirt. Add a great necklace and earrings and you have a comfortable but stylish look for work.
