My go-to holiday outfit features a beautiful velvet chartreuse infinity scarf. I’m pairing it with a burgundy faux leather shift dress. I can make it a little funky with animal print booties, polka dot ankle socks with a gold clutch or take it to the office holiday party with OTK boots and a snakeskin vintage clutch. A gold cuff and varying gold chandelier earrings help keep the outfit fresh each time! The scarf is a nice alternative to a necklace and adds a contrasting punch of color (The scarf and dress are from Taupe).
A hot trend I want to try is belting a scarf. This adds a chic layer to dresses or pant suits. To make this work, select a thin scarf—think silk, cashmere or a blended material—tuck it under a belt so the ends hang down. You can make them even or go uneven for a really elegant look. Pick a scarf in the same color family as your outfit but not too matchy-matchy. Easily pull this off by wearing a solid “base” adding the pizazz with a patterned scarf. Use a thick or thin belt, but keep it neutral and make sure it sits slightly higher than your natural waistline to be the most flattering. Adjust as needed for no bunching. Want to look taller? Pick a scarf hitting below your knees once it’s draped around your neck. Another option is to crisscross the scarf in the front and belt it. This doesn’t require quite as long of a scarf and makes for a really dramatic look!
Love pins? Add one to the scarf anchoring it to your outfit. Drape a wider scarf around your shoulders like a shawl (see Festoon photo below) and add a vintage pin. Or, take that same wider scarf and drape it over one shoulder from front to back, gather it slightly and pin it in place. This could also work with the belt idea above, but leave the pin off in that case!
Another scarf to consider is a fur version; these are really popular this year. It can take jeans and a simple sweater to “party-ready” with one twist. I prefer classic neutrals but saturated colors in faux fur are very trendy this year and could be really fun at a party or to jazz up your winter coat.
Don’t be afraid to try a bright color or one with metallic threads/embellishments to add some extra sparkle. I pulled some selections from three local stores in Lancaster in the images below that should give you plenty of ideas on how to work a scarf into your holiday outfit. Whether you want to go tone-on-tone with beautiful cashmere or add that punch of color, there are a lot of options this year!
I hope to see you out this holiday season rockin’ one of these beautiful scarves! Enjoy…
