Fringe is everywhere. Just about every designer is doing something with it! You will find it from earrings and necklaces to bags, dresses, skirts and eveningwear.
At first I wasn’t sure I was really going to be into this trend, but I have fully embraced it. A favorite pair of vintage earrings helped me start the transition. They have wonderful strands of gold chain hanging down and are so dramatic when I wear them. They work just as well with a t-shirt and jeans as they do with a more formal outfit. Adding some new jewelry, whether it’s necklaces or earrings with fringe and tassel accents, is an easy way to give your outfits an update.
I’ve added two bags recently to my collection that include fringe. The first is an absolutely gorgeous black leather bag from Jennifer Haley. I loved this bag the first time I held it but I had no idea how much I would use it. It can be a cross-body, shoulder, or clutch bag. Every time I carry it, people comment on it. It is well worth the splurge. On a trip to my parents’ for the holidays I picked up a yellow leather fringe bag. I knew it would add just the right punch of color and style into my spring outfits. I found it at a consignment store, so be sure to check those out for this trend. If you’re not sure about getting something with fringe, a bag is a great way to add it to your wardrobe.
Scarves, wraps, and tops are all coming out this spring with fringe. One item on my checklist is a kimono or cocoon style top. The kimono style can work easily with jeans and a simple top underneath. I chose to pair this one with distressed jeans, a tank and heels for a casual night out look. You could dress this down a bit by adding a cute pair of flats or sandals when it gets warmer. Or you can layer it on top of a maxi skirt/dress with sandals for more of a bohemian look (also popular this spring). This style is ranging from hip-length to longer styles. Not that I really need another scarf, but seriously, can you ever have enough? Gauzy scarves are coming in this year with tassels and fringe in cotton and leather. I’m very intrigued by the leather fringe and can’t wait to see them locally.
To kick it up a notch, if you’re looking for something dramatic, try adding a skirt or dress with fringe to your wardrobe. I stalked this skirt for awhile before diving in and getting it. I love it! It is one of the most amazing skirts I have. I could dress it up with a sheer button up or blouse, but I think it has more appeal when paired with a t-shirt. Long dangling earrings, a cuff, and cool clutch pull everything together. It feels so good when I wear it; the fringe grazes the floor and flows as I walk. I realize this is not for everyone, but if you need something to set you apart, fringe on a more formal piece will do it.
