If there is one thing that I love (and I think I speak for most women), it’s a man who takes care of himself and is well groomed. Some guys may think it makes them less of a man when they show interest in things like moisturizing or exfoliating but that is not the case. It shows they care.
I’ve rounded up some basic, easy-to-follow skincare tips to keep your skin healthy without compromising your manhood:
-
Lather up. This is simple. Splashing your face with cold water and a good cleanser (more than just the bar of soap in the shower) helps get rid of all of the dead skin cells and dirt. Bonus: In the morning the cold water will also wake you up. Make sure to repeat this at night too.
-
Use oil-free moisturizer. Moisturizers that have a creamier base have a tendency to clog pores, so stick with lotions that are oil-free.
-
Don’t shave against the grain. Many think they will get a closer shave against the grain, but it actually creates inflammations. Shave with the grain, and with only one stroke, so you aren’t shaving the same spot over and over, which can irritate the skin.
-
Steer clear of aftershave or fragrant products. Often times, those fragrances can further irritate the skin (products for sensitive skin are best). Aftershave is mainly for fragrance purposes and doesn’t do much for the skin other than sting. Opt for a moisturizer instead. If you do decide to give aftershave a try, make sure it has some sort of moisturizer in it.
-
Invest in a good razor. Saving money may be great, but in the long run, you will do more damage to your skin by using inexpensive or disposable razors. Think of it as an investment piece that you will have for years. An added bonus is that you are treating your skin better.
-
Exfoliate. Doing this at least once or twice a week can give your face a much-needed deep clean. Some face washes have exfoliating beads in them, but it is better to use a completely different wash for exfoliating for the simple fact that you do not need to exfoliate every day.
-
Don’t neglect your lips. There is no shame in carrying chapstick with you, whether in your pocket or your work/gym bag. Just think, using chapstick on the regular will make your lips that much more kissable.
-
Don’t neglect your hands either. Nothing is worse than latching onto the hand of your loved one and feeling like you are holding sandpaper. Lather up with some sort of cream-based moisturizer.
Whether you have no skincare routine at all, or dabble in moisturizer a little here or there, it is never too late to get started with these easy steps. Most of them can even be done in the shower, saving you some time.
