1. Bronzed Eye shadow
Bronzy hues are typically used in our summer makeup regimen, but this fall, keep your orange and gold hues on hand. The color orange is pretty much synonymous with fall, so it’s no surprise that the iconic fall color is a major makeup trend this season. It’s also no surprise that these hues are trending after newest makeup mogul, Kylie Jenner, released her fist eye shadow palette in late summer featuring all bronzy tones. But, fear not—it will not take an entire eye palette to get this look - only three shades that you may already have!
To get this look:
1. Select shadows. Include one that is a few shades lighter than your skin tone (highlighter shade), one that is a bronzy/orange tone that compliments your features (“the color”) and one darker shade (contour shade).
Need help selecting colors? - Green eyes: pair with bronze/gold, plum and peach tones - Blue eyes: pair with warm brown, bronzy taupe/orange and peach tones - Brown eyes: pair with purple, gold and cool brown tones
Application process:
1. Take lightest color and cover entire eye lid—especially concentrate shadow the area right below the eyebrow and the tear duct/inner eye area.
2. Take the bronzy/gold/orange hue and take it over the eyelid crease and blend down (avoiding the very center of the eyelid).
3. Take darkest shade and put in the outer corner of the eye and blend it into medium shade.
I used: Nude, Honey Pot and Chocolate Martini eye shadows from Too Faced
2. Dark lips
Starting with mauve and going as dark as plum or a deep brown, depending on how adventurous you’re feeling dark lips are in this fall!
If you’re like me, this can get messy. How I achieved this look:
1. Purchase liner and lip stain (I used Kourt K from Kylie Cosmetics).
2. Keep makeup remover on hand if you need to fix a mistake (my specific product stays on for the long haul and can be very unforgiving once it’s dried).
3. Apply liner around edges of lips and blend into the center of the lips.
4. Apply stain to entire lip (dealing with a lipstick instead of a stain? it may be easier to use a small makeup brush and paint it on).
5. Let dry.
6. Take translucent powder and blend the edges, and spray with finishing spray.
3. Less liner, more lashes
Playing with eye liner (whether that be thick/thin/cat eye/doll eye) has been trending for the last few years. Recently, many celebrities have been forgoing thick eyeliner for thick lashes, which can appear more natural.
To achieve this look you can go the easiest route—no liner at all. Option two is to use an eye pencil and line the under edge of your lid (if you’ve never done this before, it can seem weird, but it works). This is a great option if you want to make your eyes pop but look super natural. Option three: add eye liner on the under edge of your eye and a very thin line on the top of your eye.
Here’s what I got when I combined all three trends (only other product added was mascara):
If you don’t always feel comfortable trying new makeup trends, try one while you’re just hanging out around the house for the day. Sometimes the sudden change (for me this was the dark lips) can be hard to take in, but then you may find yourself loving it once you soak it in. But at the end of the day, when you feel comfortable, you feel your best, and when you feel your best, you look your best. So staying true to your personal style is always the #1 rule. Happy Fall!
